Waveguide Using Tin Can Antenna for Wireless Lab 2

Tin Can Antenna for Wireless Lab 2

I. Introduction

We detect signal that transmit from Wi-Fi Router by Tin Can that we built by our hand made. This TinCan can detect signal from Wi-fi Router 2.4GHz. To gain data form Tin Can, we use spectrum analyzer to check dB gain of Wi-Fi Router signal. In this experiment also the same as experiment before too. But this experiment we make measurement outdoor.

II. Objective

In this experiment we want to know about:
  • Learn to build Tin An antenna for Wi-Fi
  • Learn of waveguide type antenna by Tin Can
  • Learn the power gain that Tin Can detect from Wi-Fi Router (2.4GHz)
  • To conclusion about either the Tin Can or data

III. Equipment

In this experiment, we use equipment such as below:
  • Spectrum Analyzer (2 GHz)
  • Wi-Fi Router (PROLINK, PRN2001) 2.4 GHz
  • BNC Connection F(Type)
  • Tin Can (steal of mike can)
  • Monopole antenna
  • Cables

IV. Methodology

Now use TinCan to design like figure below:

 V. Measurement

First we need to check Wi-Fi signal without use TinCan to make reference of Wi-Fi Router.

1) Result gain reference get from measurement (without TinCan)

After we get result reference without use TinCan, now make measurement using TinCan like figure below:

2) Result gain get from measurement using TinCan.

Now we make one more experiment by rotation TinCan antenna with many angle in distance 2 meters like figure below:

 3) Result gain get from measurement using TinCan antenna with rotation angle in distance 2 meters

Let try second method for test antenna.

4) Gain of Elevation angle

VI. Conclusion

In conclusion, we could build TinCan antenna and receive data successfully. And we can discuss Wi-Fi antenna using TinCan have gain more than normal Wi-Fi antenna, if we put it in front between Wi-Fi antenna and reciever antenna.
